Formal opening of Estonian SMEAR station

The biggest infrastructurual project that our work group manages is the Station for Measuring Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relations (SMEAR). Tomorrow, on 25th of August at 11 AM the formal opening of Estonian SMEAR station will take place in Järvselja Experimental Forest station (ca 50 km from Tartu).

The Estonian SMEAR station (home page) is actually 130-meter tall tower, equipped with various sensors for measuring anything from atmospheric gases to plant volatiles and biomass productivity (more details can be found here).

The coordinator of the whole thing is Steffen Noe (here you can find a rather recent interview with him), but in addition to plant physiologists there is also people from forestry, physics, soil biology and ecosystem ecology involved in the project.
